The Collect, the prayer for the week

Reach
We work so hard with our primary schools, but what happens after that?
Fortunately there is a charity called Reach which goes into secondary schools in the area, including Langtree where most Goring children go onto. This Sunday they are talking to us at St Thomas’ at 9.30am about their work and how we can support them.

Also this Sunday, after the 9.30am service and following on from Jana’s talk about her 100km walk for the Ghurkha benevolent fund, she will be hosting a cake sale. Please come hungry, with baskets and loaded with cash or see https://trailwalker.gwt.org.uk/jana-bourhill to donate online.
Digging deeper
Digging Deeper - Exploring God together
Simple trust can sometimes be very good and blissful. At other times it means we can easily give up when all is not as we wish. Actually we can grow by asking and facing difficult questions to become wiser and, we hope, lovelier.  One definition of Theology is: finding what God is saying or doing in something; seeking to understand his nature.

Prayers for this week

Thank you to Sally for this week’s prayers based on David Adam’s Clouds and Glory.

Lord, Awaken us to your glory.
Open our eyes to your presence.
Open our ears to your call.
Open our hearts to your love,
that we may proclaim that you are among us;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

We pray for all who are seeking to set standards, to raise morale,
for all who are seeking holiness and dedication,
for all who are living heroic lives,
for all striving to live simply.
May we be a listening church and a forgiving church.
Lord, in your mercy
hear us and help us.

We pray for all who have lost sight of spiritual values,
all who are caught up in sheer materialism,
all who can measure only by possessions or wealth.
We pray for all who suffer from hunger, poverty or bad housing.
We pray for all who are caught up in debauchery and licentiousness.
Lord, in your mercy
hear us and help us.

We pray that our homes may reflect your acceptance and love.
Forgive our quarrelling and our jealousy.
Teach us tolerance and compassion.
We give thanks for all who have tolerated us,
and given us their love.
We pray that our community may be a caring and friendly community.
Lord, in your mercy
hear us and help us.

We pray for all involved in drunkenness or vice,
all who are alcoholics or addicts.
We pray for homes that suffer through the sin or weakness of a member of the family,
for all who are subjected to violence or abuse.
We remember all who are tempted to give up hope.
Lord, in your mercy
hear us and help us.

We give thanks for all who have walked the way of your commandments,
who have fulfilled your laws and done your will.
Following their example, may we come to share with them in your everlasting glory.
Lord, in your mercy
hear us and help us.

Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
