Big Green Day 

We have now held two Great Big Green days, coinciding with the National Green Week working with the Climate Care Coalition. Our Care for Creation Group has brought together many interested groups and individuals to raise awareness of our precious, amazing but only one (and not infinitely resilient) God-given planet.

The first in October 2022 was perfect timing for Apple Pressing, the second took place on 17 June 2023 sharing ideas, encouraging and challenging us as to how we can change our ways and pass on more of this one precious, wonderful, wild world to the next generation.

Lots of organisations came together to run the stalls. Children from Goring Primary School had written thoughtful letters of hope from the future, looking back from 2053 telling of what they had done to avert the crises of today. Three owls were present and children were invited to dissect their pellets and discover what they need to live on. Information on re-wilding our gardens, starting a pond, and on growing food in your garden were all at hand. Nesting boxes were made and delicious home made cakes and rolls shared. Old Bikes were restored and many found new homes. Attics were emptied of clothes which had been held onto.

One mishap was amazingly sorted. A very pregnant woman visiting for a wedding in Streatley that day had sorted all her childcare arrangements etc. but managed to leave her wedding outfit behind. She had an hour before the wedding. Fortunately someone had kindly shared a gorgeous floating dress bought in Greece many years ago and no-longer being used. Bingo!

Thank you to everyone who helped and supported the day. While not intending to make a profit, we were able to send money to WaterAid (even though it was too hot for Humphrey their camel to entice anyone to be his rear end that day) BBOWT (Wildlife Trust) and our local primary school kitchen gardens.
