Welcome to our weekly newsletter

Alleluia, Christ is risen….
…… He is risen indeed, Alleluia!
Coronation

This weekend a lot is happening. In it all one man is committing himself to us all in a way that will depend upon God’s grace and our help and prayers.

We will be thinking about him and praying for him and for our part in this nation and world.
A Collect for the Coronation
Almighty God, the fountain of all goodness,
bless our Sovereign Lord, King Charles,
and all who are in authority under him;
that they may order all things
in wisdom and equity, righteousness and peace,
to the honour of your name,
and the good of your Church and people;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

The Collect, the prayer for the week
Risen Christ,
your wounds declare your love for the world
and the wonder of your risen life:
give us compassion and courage
to risk ourselves for those we serve,
to the glory of God the Father.

News about Jo’s plans for the future
We are very pleased that Jo has been offered a job with 'Rural Mission' as the director for their South West region. This is a 3-day/week role where she will be providing consulting advice to rural churches on mission, as well as nurturing other pioneers, and continuing her academic work. She will start on 1st June and we're really pleased for her as the job is a great fit.
Jo will continue to act as a house-for-duty curate until either she finds another house-for-duty post or until Easter 2024. As such she will be working for us 2 days/week + Sundays. She will be in the parish on Wednesdays (school assembly day, staff meetings etc.) and Tuesdays. Much of this time will be in preparation for Sundays and school and family work, but also doing some pastoral work to complete her training. Please pray for her and the family and all this ministry. Thank you.

ChristianAid
Christian Aid Week 14th – 20th May
Christian Aid works with local partner organisations throughout the world to bring hope to those facing crisis.
The focus of the campaign this May is on countries like Malawi and Kenya where farmers are suffering the consequences of global warming.
During Christian Aid Week, we are planning to deliver envelopes to people’s homes with a note asking them to take their donations to Jack’s or Inspiration for Goring and Streatley, or the Village Shop in South Stoke. If you are able to deliver the envelopes in your road or one near you, please collect the relevant folder from St Thomas’ Church  for roads in Goring, or volunteer your help to your Church Wardens for roads in Streatley and South Stoke. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

In addition this year, Ann will very kindly be hosting a Ploughman's Lunch in aid of Christian Aid.
Piano Recital by Patrick Lillie
There will be a recital at St Thomas’ on Sunday 14th May at 3pm. Having delighted listeners at his previous recital last September, this gifted young pianist returns with a new programme including works by Mozart, Liszt, Gershwin, Debussy and Granados. There is no charge for entry but there will be a retiring collection to support the work of Christian Aid.
Bath towels: we have been contacted by the Hub in Goring asking if anyone might have a couple of bath towels they would be willing to donate to an elderly man who has just moved into accommodation in the village. If you could help with this please contact the office (875651).
Care Bus Outing to the Hillier Garden Centre in Aldermaston
The second of the St. Mary's P.C.C. Care Bus trips to enable more housebound people, in particular, to have the opportunity for an outing is planned for Friday 19th May. As before there will be a pick up in the High Street by St. Mary's at 1.25 p.m.
There will be a charge of £1 and places are limited.
If you are interested, please contact John Rogers as soon as possible. (You can e-mail John via the church website)
We hope for a full bus and an enjoyable afternoon.

Great Big Green Day, Saturday 17 June

We are asked to pray

  • For God to grow his kingdom in us and through us. That we will be truly his body for the world.
