Hire of St. Mary's Church, Streatley

St. Mary's Church is a beautiful venue for concerts, recitals, readings or other private events. The Church seats 150 people. There are boxed pews with runners to provide comfortable seating. The church is equipped with a flexible sound amplification system as well as having an excellent, recently installed organ. There is a piano near the chancel step. Disabled access and toilet facilities are available in Church. There are a few car parking spaces, or dropping off places, near the Church. Parking is limited although there are spaces in the High Street and, by kind permission, in the car park at The Swan Hotel close by.

St Mary’s, Streatley: Hire Agreement (Issue 09/14)

St Mary’s Parochial Church Council (PCC) agree to hire the Church on the following terms and conditions which are deemed to have been agreed by the hirer on acceptance of the booking. The agreed date of the hire period and the start and finish times, as defined on the booking form.

1. Payment of deposit and hire fee
The agreed fee for the use of the Church shall be paid in advance of the hiring together with a deposit of £25.50 which deposit will be refunded within seven days of the hire unless there has been any damage to the accommodation, furniture or equipment for which the hirer shall be responsible and in which the PCC shall be entitled to retain the whole or part of the deposit as security for the cost of rectifying.

2. Access to the Church and Associated Parking
2.1 Vehicles parked along Church Lane must not be positioned so as to obstruct access to the Church for emergency vehicles. (Please note: Parking in the Swan Hotel Car Park is reserved for hotel guests only.)
2.2 The keys are held by the church officer with whom the hire arrangement has been negotiated.
2.3 The PCC retains control, possession and management of the accommodation and the hirer has no right to exclude such members from the premises.

3. Indemnity and Insurance
The hirer shall indemnify and keep indemnified each member of the PCC and PCC’s volunteers, agents and invitees against:
3.1 a. The full cost of repair (including professional fees) of any damage done to any part of the premises including the curtilage thereof and/or the contents of the premises;
b. All claims, losses, damages and costs in respect of damage or loss of property or injury to persons arising as a result of use of the premises (including the storage of equipment) by the hirer;
c. All claims, losses damages and costs suffered or incurred as a result of any nuisance caused to a third party as a result of the use of the premises by the hirer.
3.2 The Hirer shall take out adequate insurance, including for the public liability and for damage to property, to insure the hirer and members of the hirer’s organisation and invitees against the hirer’s liability under preceding paragraph (3.1) and claims for accidents arising as a result of the hire, and on demand the hirer shall produce the policy and current receipt or other such evidence of cover to the churchwardens. Failure if requested to produce such policy and evidence of cover shall render the hiring void.

4. Appropriate use of the Church
The Church and grounds are consecrated and the hirer shall use the premises in an appropriate manner. They shall not be used for any purpose contrary to the purposes of the Church of England as determined by the Vicar and churchwardens. The PCC reserves the right to refuse or terminate any booking should these conditions be breached in the opinion of the Vicar or churchwardens, whose decision is final. The PCC’s consequential liability for the financial loss shall be limited to the refund of any hire fee.

5. Responsibility of Hirer
5.1 The Church shall only be used by the hirer, and for the purpose and period indicated on the application form submitted to the PCC.
5.2 After the use of the Church it shall be left in a clean and tidy condition and the hirer shall ensure that all lights are turned off and all doors and windows properly secured.
5.3 The hirer agrees that the Church accepts no responsibility for injury or loss to persons or property arising out of the use of the Church apart from such injury or loss which arises from the PCC’s responsibility for the general maintenance of the Church. The hirer shall keep the Church indemnified against any claims for which the Church is not responsible.
5.4 The hirer shall comply with the provisions of the PCC’s Health and Safety policy and shall ensure that all those using the accommodation are aware of the appropriate safety procedures, including evacuation procedures and No Smoking policy.
5.5 Where the Church is used by children, the hirer agrees to comply with the Government’s guidelines set out in the document "Safe from Harm."
5.6 Alcohol may only be consumed at an event with the prior agreement of the Vicar and/or Churchwardens. Where such agreement is granted and where alcohol is sold or included in the ticket price then the hirer is responsible for obtaining the licence required. The PCC restricts the sale or consumption of alcohol to beer, cider and wines. No spirits are allowed under any circumstances.
5.7 The hirer shall take away and dispose of, all rubbish, food remains etc.
5.8 The hirer shall be responsible for providing all crockery, glasses, cutlery etc.
5.9 The hirer shall endeavour to ensure that all hirers of the Church keep noise to an acceptable level and that their general behaviour is appropriate to the location within a consecrated churchyard.

St Mary’s, Streatley: Hire charges 2014-15

Charges are reviewed annually, in January, by St Mary’s Standing Committee.

1. No charges shall be made for the use of the church for religious services other than levied by the Diocese or having existing charges published, such as weddings, etc.
2. a) Events which are run by amateurs for the purpose of charity shall be charged at an initial £25.50 for the first two hours and £15.30 per hour thereafter.
b) Events which are run by organisations or professional for the purpose of profit shall be charged at a rate of £25.50 per hour.
3. The PCC reserves the right to vary these charges as they may see fit and to deny any person the right to hire the church for any activity which they consider to be inappropriate.

Any variations to these charges shall only be made by agreement of two of the following: The Vicar and/or one/two PCC members.
